PNG

Postby Turkey Man » Mon Oct 16, 2006 10:00 am

Yeah so i added PNG support to help keep the data repositories a bit smaller..
PNG allegedly supports alpha channels, and in the PNG code, it certainly looks like the format does... But i couldnt work out any way of making photoshop save the alpha channel... The little save alpha chanel tickbox is always greyed out. And i managed to tick it once, but it didnt save the alpha anyway..

Does anyone know how to work photoshop and save alpha in a PNG?
If someone could make me a test image with an alpha channel, I need to test my code properly ;)

Yeah I found some on the PNG homepage already..
My code works, its just photoshop which is too shit to save a PNG with alpha ;)
I tried 3 different PNG plugins, none of them do it.

I'll check it out later but my memory says it can save alpha, just not a Channel4 alpha. It should recognise Photoshops's default transparancy.

If not there are other apps that can spit them out.

hay?
how else can you describe alpha in photoshop?
channel4 alpha is the only way i know of that gives you proper control.. you can easilly see and control the alpha value at each pixel..

so is that really the only way to do it?
that sucks..
theres no way to save the actual alpha channel instead?

just tried a few images, seems to be true..

and i just tried 2 other PNG plugins for photoshop and they both seems to behave the same way... which is shit..
it really should work like the targa plugin, or support both methods (also like the targa plugin).. :/
